The elevation of pastor Marek Novicky to the title of Mitred Archpriest.
On 7 June 2026, the community at the Slovak Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God celebrated the elevation of its pastor, Marek Novicky, to the title of Mitred Archpriest. The Rt. Rev. Arch. Marek was mitred by the visiting Metropolitan Archbishop Jonaš Maxim of the Archeparchy of Prešov in Slovakia. The elevation occurred during a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided by His Excellency Kurt Brunette, Eparchial Bishop of Passaic and Apostolic Administrator to the Slovak Byzantine Catholic Exarchate of Cyril and Methodius. Rt. Rev. Arch. Marek's elevation came as a recognition of his devoted work in pastoral ministry for two decades and his steadfast leadership within the Exarchate in Canada for nearly fifteen years. The community welcomed this honour for their pastor and rejoiced in both prayer and fellowship during and after liturgy; they continue to pray for continued excellence in their pastor such that his work may continue to bear the life giving fruit of the Spirit.
